ALM's Legal Times reports influence 50 lobbyists broke billion dollar barrier in 2007
- 18 Mar 2008WASHINGTON (March 17, 2008) – ALM’s Legal Times reported today that the 50 highest-grossing lobbying practices in the country passed the $1 billion revenue mark for the first time last year, thanks in part to strong growth in work outside the traditional boundaries of legislative lobbying. Total revenue for the Influence 50 was up 11 percent. Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld ranked number one on the list for the second consecutive year, with $89.8 million in lobbying income. Patton Boggs was a close runner-up, with $89.3 million. Analysis and a complete revenue ranking of the Influence 50 are available at www.legaltimes.com.
Legal Times’ annual Influence 50 survey shows that some of the biggest players in the lobbying world generated multi-million dollar increases in fees from public relations, monitoring legislative activities, and grassroots advocacy.
“Despite all of the attacks on this industry out on the campaign trail, the last year has been an enormously prosperous one for lobbying practices,” said David Brown, editor in chief of Legal Times. “Judging by revenue growth over the last few years, it may not be a stretch to say that this is the golden age of lobbying.”
The Influence survey measures lobbying revenues reported to Congress under the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) and to the Justice Department under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA); and asks firms to provide information about state-level and foreign lobbying and other related lobbying work.
