Incisive Media sells UK’s best-selling computing magazine Computeractive to Dennis Publishing Ltd.
Computeractive was launched in 1998 as a fortnightly mass market consumer magazine appealing to home users of computers, software and the internet with news, reviews, advice and step-by-step projects. It immediately became the UK’s best-selling computing magazine, offering simple clear advice in plain English (as recognised by the Plain English Campaign), and the Computeractive brand along with the Computeractive ultimate guide series has since maintained its market leading position in an increasingly competitive market.
Computeractive was acquired by Incisive Media in 2007 as part of the VNU acquisition, it has remained a cash generative and profitable asset, but has always been non-core as a consumer-facing brand.
While this deal sees Dennis Publishing acquire the brand, there will be no interruption to the publishing schedule of the title. The editorial and advertising teams will transfer to Dennis Publishing and will be moved to Dennis’s Central London HQ within the month. Computeractive will become part of Dennis Publishing Deputy MD John Garewal’s portfolio.
Dennis Publishing is a leading independent publisher, with over 50 magazines, digital magazines, websites and mobile sites in the UK and offices in New York, Sydney and New Delhi.
John Garewal, MD of Dennis Technology & Imaging: said: “Computeractive is a fantastic magazine that we have admired for a number of years, which makes this a particularly exciting move for us. The addition of Computeractive to our already strong portfolio will allow us to increase the scale and opportunity for our advertisers, subscribers and readers alike.”
Incisive Media Chief Executive, Tim Weller said: “Dennis is a great new home for Computeractive. I would personally like to thank the Computeractive team for their energy, continued hard work and commitment whilst under Incisive Media’s ownership. I am convinced the title will continue to flourish as part of a larger consumer publishing group. The sale of Computeractive and also British Journal of Photography to Apptitude Media today, will now allow Incisive Media to focus its efforts entirely on our leading business to business brands."
