All Party Parliamentary Group on Insurance & Financial Services

appg-home-page

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Insurance and Financial Services was founded in 1991 following an initiative by Post Magazine to improve communication between the insurance industry and Parliament.

The APPGIFS examines issues of interest to the insurance industry and the broader retail financial services sector, especially where there are legislative implications. It has over 50 members drawn from both Houses of Parliament and all major parties.

The group has tackled a wide range of issues and played a significant part in the formation of Pool Re, the introduction of equalisation reserves, securing compensation for people miss-sold home reversion plans and getting tougher action on uninsured driving. It meets frequently with the regulators and a wide range of organisations representing the industry.

Administration

Incisive Media's Insurance Division provides the administrative support for the group, arranges meetings, visits and other activities. This is done in conjuction with the officers of the group who are elected annually in accordance with the rules laid down by Parliament for the running of All Party Groups.

PricewaterhouseCoopers provides technical support.

Communications

The group produces occasional newsletters and email up-dates. Anyone who wants to be added to the mailing lists should contact Jonathan Swift (below). Information and news abouts its activities also appears from time-to-time on the Parliamentary Connections blog.
