Editorial philosophy

The BJP app was launched in September 2011. The app is the culmination of nine months' research and development by a team led by BJP's art editor, Mick Moore, working to a brief set by editor Simon Bainbridge.

Having transformed our 157-year-old weekly printed journal into a heavyweight monthly magazine and then overhauling our website, focusing it on daily news and observations, the iPad allows us to truly bring our features to life on a digital screen for the first time. As we are also no longer restricted by the confines of paper and print, we can pack it full of content.

Rich in enhanced content, the app includes exclusive multimedia features and extended versions of sections popular in the print edition. Exploiting the iPad's design for photo viewing, its striking photographs give way to full-screen portfolios, allowing users to engage with the photography in a new way. Up-to-the-minute live news from BJP-Online is also accessible at the click of a button.
