Incisive Media reorganises editorial teams into single newsroom to focus on

Incisive Media has announced the reorganisation of the editorial teams for its Risk portfolio, to focus on its market-leading product,

The reorganisation, which is a result of extensive reader research conducted with strategy consultants OC&C, creates a single newsroom from the seven existing teams, with five new desk editors taking responsibility for the key beats, and new bureau chiefs in Hong Kong, London and New York managing staff locally.

All 44 journalists, editors and production staff will now focus on providing exclusive, in-depth risk management, derivatives and regulation coverage for’s global audience of banks, regulators, asset managers, insurers and energy firms. The content will continue to appear in Risk magazine and its sister print titles.

Risk magazine’s editor, Duncan Wood, has been promoted to editor-in-chief for – a new role.

“It’s a big change, and it’s overdue,” says Wood. “ has posted successive years of double-digit growth, but it’s happening despite our current set-up, not because of it. We have a lot of talent spread across the existing teams, but we have not been realising our full potential. Our new desk editors will ensure readers get more coverage of the topics we’re best at – risk management, derivatives and regulation.”

John Barnes, managing director of the Incisive Insight business – which includes the Risk titles – says: “ and its portfolio of brands is an important business for us and through extensive research with strategy consultants OC&C we have decided to restructure the team around a single newsroom to realise the full potential of the new team, and significantly develop our digital offering for our subscribers, delegates and advertisers.”

He added: “These are very exciting times for and the Insight division and we have put in place a fantastic team of expert editors and journalists who will ensure it is the best of breed digitally and globally.”

In the new structure, Mark Pengelly, editor of Energy Risk, will be the risk management editor; Lukas Becker, EMEA editor for Risk magazine, is the derivatives editor; Rob Mannix, editor of Insurance Risk, is editor for asset management and insurance.

The roles of regulation editor and energy editor will be filled soon.

The Hong Kong bureau chief is Aaron Woolner, currently editor of Asia Risk. Olesya Dmitracova, digital editor for, is the London bureau chief. Kris Devasabai, US editor for Risk magazine, is the bureau chief for New York.

Luke Clancy, editor of Hedge Funds Review, is promoted to editor-at-large, with a remit to work across the beats.

Alexander Campbell, is promoted to the newly created role of divisional content editor, in which he will be responsible for providing readers with access to the excellent content generated elsewhere in Incisive Media’s Insight division – specifically, Central Banking, FX Week, Risk Books, Risk Journals, and the Waters family of financial technology titles, as well as the division’s conferences and training courses.

In order to create more commercial opportunities, while ensuring the independence of its journalists and editors, plans to create a separate team focused on the creation of native content.
