Incisive Media’s CEO Tim Weller awarded top industry honour.
- 22 Nov 2005The sixteenth PPA Marcus Morris award recipient was commended for his passion for business and professional media that has seen him grow his company from employing 13 people in an office with a hole in the roof 10 years ago, to a company with revenues of some £24m in the six months to June 2005. According to those who nominated him for the award: “no other individual has achieved as much in business publishing".
In an emotional acceptance speech, Weller said: "It is an extraordinarily humbling experience to be here to receive this award. It is a great honour. While this award is for an individual, Incisive Media’s success to-date has been achieved by an outstanding and committed team and this award, I hope, recognises the whole company’s success."
"It is important to have recognition when you've built something that works. Today is a huge thing for me, so thank you very much."
The founder of Incisives career path has seen him move from sales at VNU Business Publications, to director of Centaur Communications, before becoming managing director of Reuters Publications in 1994, where he researched his idea for Investment Week. Realising Reuters was unlikely to move into publishing at the speed he wanted, Weller founded his own company. Initially called City Financial Communications, it merged with Timothy Benn Publishing to form Incisive Media. He floated Incisive Media in December 2000 and since then the company has acclerated its growth dramatically, through a number of acquisitions and brand launches. Said Weller: "We didn't want to lose what we created and since then we have constantly regenerated the company."Tim Weller’s achievements to date have been recognised with a series of awards, including being named PPA Publisher of the Year in 1997 and 1998 and Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001, the first publisher to be scoop the high profile award.
Looking to the future for Incisive and the wider professional media industry, Weller said that his priority was to "continue to deliver customers for our clients who are selling products in our communities."
He said although Incisive had, from the start, been a multi-platform publisher - building brands across print, online and people media, the magazine would "always be the central brand driving through the strategy."
He concluded: "The key driver is must-have content and the delivery of that content down these different channels. The future lies with rich data - we will no longer just passively cover the industries we serve, we will become players in these industries."
