First, I come up with ideas for new software. Then I share my enthusiasm for these product ideas with the company and our clients. I oversee the execution of these new software products. Lastly, I put on my sales hat and hit the street looking for potential customers.
What IT projects are you currently working on?
Tax software and portfolio accounting systems. Broker-dealers are worried about complying with the new cost basis reporting regulations. I am working closely with our clients and other vendors to come up with sound solutions that will allow broker-dealers to accomplish two things: easily comply with the new tax reporting regulations and adjust their businesses now so they won't have to re-visit the same issues in another year.
What will be the big trends of 2010?
As the economy recovers, there will be lots of IT spending with minimal hiring. Institutional buyers will be looking for software and consulting solutions rather than adding to their own staff. Vendors and consultants will create jobs.
Will you hire new IT recruits next year?
Yes, we will hire 10 recruits. We are looking for creative problem solvers. These recruits will help us grow the firm during the expected IT boom that we will witness in the next 12 months.
Which portion of your job takes up the most of your time?
Commuting on Interstate 93, of course! No, seriously, it is actually sales, and building our pipeline of possible customers while strengthening our alliances with other vendors and solution providers.
What keeps you awake at night?
Worrying that I am wrong about the economy and people will not be spending. Or, that we do not end up getting in front of the business before someone else does.
Which DVD is in the DVD player?
Vivaldi's The Four Seasons.
What was the last gadget you bought?
A Blu-ray player. I really appreciate high-quality sound and high-definition video. I love to unwind late at night watching action and adventure films.
What was your first job?
I helped build real-time risk management software for equity derivatives traders at Morgan Stanley. -->
