Meet our Trainees
Read on to find out more about our trainees at Incisive Media from their own experiences:
Michael Watt - Staff Writer for Risk
"...I graduated from university in 2009 with a history and politics degree. I then interned as an assistant to an MP in Westminster and my home constituency for three or four months...."
Derek Du Preez - Editorial Trainee for Computing
"...Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the internet, once tweeted one of my stories, and that was great. It is exciting when you realise important people are actually looking at your work. I have also been very fortunate on Computing to travel a lot. In my first six months with the publication, I have been to the US three times, Barcelona and Paris. One of these trips included flying to New York for 24 hours! Never a dull moment..."
Faye Kilburn - European Reporter for Inside Market Data
"...I have recently been promoted to European reporter for Inside Market Data - Waters Technology's news weekly. I loved working across all our brands, but I was ready to specialise, and the pace of a weekly is much more exciting. Incisive is a great place to find your niche and there are loads of ways to progress..."
Jessica Shankleman - Editorial Trainee for BusinessGreen
"...Travelling to Malaysia to investigate how plantation companies are trying to make palm oil more sustainable. It was by far the best thing I've done at Incisive. The whole week was incredibly demanding but also very rewarding as I had to file news stories, opinion and analysis pieces most evenings after having spent the days attending meetings, visiting plantation sites in Kuala Lumpur, or orang utans in the Borneo rainforest. Thankfully, I was allowed to take a week's holiday in Malaysia afterwards to relax and make the most of the trip..."
Mhairi Fraser - Editorial Trainee for Operational Risk & Regulation

"My most enjoyable experience so far has been covering the UBS rogue trader scandal in court - it really did feel like I was in a TV show! I also like the fact that there is always something social going on at Incisive, whether it's charity fundraising or company quiz nights. Everybody has been so friendly since I arrived and really helped when I wasn't sure about financial details - for somebody with no previous financial experience, this has been invaluable..."
Kyle Caldwell - Editorial Trainee for IFA Online
"...I felt out of my depth at the assessment day. I was one of two northerners out of 18, everyone seemed to have a better degree than me, and at least 10 more A Levels! I enjoyed the writing test as it was based on a group discussion. There was a lot of different angles you could take when writing up the discussion, so there was plenty of opportunity for everyone to show off their writing ‘flair'."
