Peter Madigan, Staff Writer - Risk
"I joined Incisive Media through the Editorial Training Programme in September 2004. My first role was as a junior reporter for Cover, the Incisive magazine covering the UK health and life insurance sectors. For the first three months the Programme was structured to give graduates in-house training on how to write news and features, as well as external training that included learning teeline shorthand to improve the speed and accuracy of our reporting.
After the programme ended, David Worsfold, group editorial services director, was always on hand to support us should we have needed further guidance.
After 18 months on Cover, I moved into the Risk division to work as a reporter on OpRisk & Compliance magazine, transferring over to the New York office for a few weeks shy of my two-year anniversary at the company. Another three years on, I am still in New York and now a staff writer for Risk, covering Wall Street and the wider international derivatives markets."
Mark Pengelly, US Editor - Risk
"I joined Incisive Media in September 2006 as a reporter on Risk magazine. Having only a little prior experience in print journalism, the editorial trainee experience was helpful in introducing me to areas including reporting, shorthand and media law. Meanwhile, being thrown into the newsroom from day one gave me an excellent education in financial markets and all the practical tricks of the trade.
Incisive is a meritocracy with a lot of lively faces. If you enjoy the job, it can take you to interesting places – I currently live in New York, but have previously travelled to Cape Town, Paris, and Johannesburg."
