Thousands of the UK’s top IT professionals gathered at the Battersea Park Events Arena for the UK IT Industry Awards 2014 in November
The event, hosted by Computing and BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, celebrates IT excellence throughout the UK computer industry. The awards focus on the contribution of individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have excelled in the use, development and deployment of IT in the past 12 months.
It was a glittering evening, with attendees enjoying a champagne reception, three-course meal, and then the comic stylings of top comedian Rich Hall. “I’ve never seen IT people all dressed up!” joked Hall as he walked on stage.
But the real focus of the event was the awards themselves, with dozens of individuals and companies on tenterhooks to see whether they had won one of the coveted gongs.
One of big winners on the night was David Davies, of Hargreaves Lansdown, winning the coveted CIO of the Year award. Click here to see a list of all the winners.
“The award really is fantastic recognition for a year’s worth of hard work and dedication not just by me, but by the whole of the team,” said Davies. “It’s been a year where we’ve evolved where we need to be and had some huge successes which benefited both our organisation and our clients. I believe that these awards are really important in recognising IT professionals across a whole spectrum of skills. IT is one of those professions that sometimes is in the back office and not seen by everyone. But these days it’s critical to the operation of not only wider IT services, but of organisations as a whole.”
