Brokers from across the UK connect with insurers and attend think tank seminars by top industry experts
A record-breaking 844 brokers from across the UK attended Insurance Age’s Broker Expo on 12 November at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. The expo provided networking opportunities for brokers and insurers, as well as presentations about the issues affecting the insurance market from top industry experts including the Financial Conduct Authority and the British Insurance Brokers’ Association. The arena was packed with more than 100 exhibitor stands, providing opportunities for brokers to nurture existing business as well as to explore new opportunities.
The opening digital think tank seminar offered an insight into the future of broking and the digital revolution, exploring a diverse range of issues surrounding the financial technology future. Insurance Age’s live blog provided fantastic coverage of the sessions, allowing attendees and those who couldn’t make it join in the live discussion using the hashtag #brokerexpo.
Many brokers got involved with Insurance Age’s Broker Apprentice candidates taking part in their challenge for episode 2 of the Broker Apprentice series. It was great to see so many brokers supporting young talent in the industry.
After a complimentary networking lunch, attendees heard about building a better business from Simon Taylor of Pen Underwriting. The session featured insight from rugby star Will Greenwood, who gave a fascinating speech on England’s 2013 Rugby World Cup victory and how marginal gains strategy translates from sport to business.
With more than 1,200 people attending the expo, Broker Expo 2015 was one of the biggest and best free-to-attend events in the UK insurance broking market. One delegate tweeted: “A really good day at #brokerexpo in Coventry. Only meant to pop in for a couple of hours but left after 6pm!”
The event was a success for exhibitors and delegates alike: exhibitors really got into the spirit of things, and we saw some fun and creative exhibition stands, initiatives and even costumes! For brokers, the expo offered a perfect balance of timely and engaging seminars and the all-important face-to–face time with potential business contacts. As one attendee said, 10 minutes at the expo is more beneficial than hours of meetings and conference calls!
