The ninth annual Legal Week Trust and Estates Litigation Forum took place earlier this month in the beautiful Provence countryside.
More than 120 leaders in the field of trust and estate litigation attended the forum, which was chaired by Shan-Warnock-Smith QC and Anthony Poulton.
The jam-packed programme provided attendees with theories, best practices and a sprinkling of comedy.
The theme of the conference was ‘The trouble with people’ and speakers hosted two mock applications which aimed to highlight typical human behaviours. The first was an application for disclosure and the second for a breach of trust in the midst of a messy family fallout. The room buzzed with opinions, agreements, disagreements and considerations, emphasising how hard the human mind can be to reason with, especially in the depths of a dispute.
The focus on human behaviour and common ‘people problems’ continued with Dr Nori Graham, Vice President and former Chairman of the National Alzheimer’s Society of England, talking about dementia and other issues surrounding mental capacity in the field of trust litigation.
Delegates enjoyed networking opportunities, from vintage car rally driving to champagne tasting.
This Legal Week forum provides a special experience for attendees, many of whom return each year.
