The insurance industry has made significant strides down the road to creating a genuinely diverse, equal opportunities sector but the consensus is there is still a long way to go, especially when it comes to narrowing the gender pay gap, pushing for more flexible working arrangements, and increasing the number of women in senior positions. Those who make it to the top are outstanding role models but there are still far too few women at the top.
These awards will honour the inspiring achievements of women across all parts of the general insurance sector and will also help shape the discussion around how we can improve diversity within the sector as we highlight some of the most forward-thinking initiatives. We hope these will help move the diversity agenda forward, especially for women, as everyone knows there are still many issues to be addressed and challenges overcome. Showcasing excellence and achievement is a vital tool in the continuing battle to establish equality across all parts of the industry and in all roles.
“I’m delighted that Incisive Media have launched the Women in Insurance Awards – the first of its kind in this industry. We are passionate about diversity as a business and our keen to see further recognition for inspiring achievements of women recognised in sectors which are currently under-represented. We hope these awards will help to bring about cultural change and tackle the gender imbalance in the insurance industry,” said Incisive Media’s managing director – events Simone Broadhurst.
David Worsfold, chair of the judges – Women in Insurance Awards, commented: “I have watched women break into senior management and non-traditional roles across the insurance industry but there is still a lot to be done. It is a very different – and much better – industry as a result. Showcasing the achievements of women across the market is a great way of helping the industry tell that story of progress but we also want it to inspire others to make their mark too. These awards will be a celebration of achievement and a starting point for taking the vital next steps towards genuine and lasting equality.”
The awards have already recruited a panel of 21 expert judges and the nomination process opens today, Monday 20th May. The deadline for nominations is Friday 28th June.
